Remember last years vacation trend? The Staycation, also known as the stay near home vacation, hasn’t actually been un-trended. Like last year, people who are tight on extra money will be spending fewer days vacationing and staying closer to home… which is another term for “driving distance.”

So, does this mean people aren’t traveling this summer? No, not at all. People won’t give up their vacations, but they are becoming more frugal.

Because there are fewer travelers this summer, prices will be better for those that do vacation. Airlines, cruise ships, and hotels are going deep into their package deals and cutting prices to the bone. Less travelers also means less crowds. Unlike summers before, the beaches won’t be as packed, the parks won’t be as full and the lines in attractions will be much smaller. For some of us, the smaller lines alone are what will drive us to biting the bullet and going on our much needed, relaxing vacation.

Another thing. Luxury travel is doing just fine. It really hasn’t changed at all. You can find some good deals on luxury travel. Perhaps a Regent or Crystal cruise. However, don’t look for the deep discounts unless they are running some type of promotion.

Travel deals are in abundance this year. Gas prices are still lower than they were last year. Yes the prices are rising but a far cry from last summer. Hotels and condos are yours for the picking. Here are 8 tips to cut your cost of a summertime family vacation.

1. If your schedule can take it, invite friends or family who live far away to meet you at the destination. This way, you can visit and vacation at the same time. It will be far less expensive than if you took two trips (one for a vacation and the other to visit family), and you’ll create a lot more memories.

2. Set your budget and stick to it. Set your budget before you make your travel plans. Once you’ve returned from your trip, use any leftover money from the budget to treat yourself to something nice. This is a way to give yourself a big high five for sticking to your plan.

3. Don’t stay in a hotel if there are more than 2 of you going. You can stay in a condo for a much cheaper price. In addition, you will have more room, the condo’s are all top rate and you won’t have to eat out as often. Use a condo card and save yourself $600.

4. Pack with intelligence. You know you’re not going to wear most of the things you normally bring, so take half of what you normally pack. Make sure you have the essentials though. It’s costly to purchase certain things at vacation spots.

5. When scheduling your flight, remember it’s normally cheapest to fly out first thing in the morning. Yes, it’s early but you could save a lot of money. Especially if you are traveling with a crowd.

6. Eating out can blow your budget. By staying in a condo, you can go to the grocery store once you get to your destination and stock up on food. Eating out on vacations is really nice, but really expensive too. Try to limit the amount of times you eat out. Remember that budget!

7. Plan a loose itinerary of the places you want to go once you reach your destination. Many of them will more than likely offer different payment plans for certain times of the day and the year.

8. When eating out, try lunch or breakfast. Either meal is normally less expensive than dinner.

Above all else. Enjoy your vacation this year and celebrate the money you spent while so many discounts are being offered.

Nothing says “Summer Is Here” quite like getting into an automobile that’s been sitting in the blazing sun for a couple of hours. When summer comes, you can tell by the slowness at which people crawl towards air conditioned shops, stores, and their homes. They’re slow, but they’re determined.

Bottled water companies cha-ching their way through summer. Air Conditioning contractors, much like school children, mark off the days on their calendar. Some of us just sweat.

Here are 10 things you can do to make your summer a breeze

1. Take the kids to a splash park in the afternoons or make your own. Nothing helps cool us off faster than cool water and splash parks are quite the rave with children. If you don’t happen to live near a splash park, create your own in your back yard. It doesn’t have to be elaborate. An inflatable pool, a hose, or even sprinklers will do the trick. Remember those days? Me too.

2. Go On A Cruise. No matter how hot it is outdoors, the rush of ocean breeze while on a cruise just never seems hot. A cruise is more like a resort on the sea. If you do happen to get warm on deck, simply take a break from the sun and dart into a shop on board or a restaurant, get some ice cream. kids love cruising as well. Cruises are not only inexpensive but once you go on one, you’ll be hooked. Revolution Vacations is offering up some mad summer deals on cruises.

3. Use white European cotton sheets. European cotton is the only way to go. Not only are they the most comfortable sheets, they also keeps your body cool in the summer.

4. Opt for white window treatments to reflect the heat away from your windows. And even though you may love bright and cheerful rooms like I do, make sure you close your window blinds or shades on the west and south sides of your home.

5. Tour Fairbanks Alaska. With 20 hours of daylight in July and August and extremely nice temperatures just under 75 degrees at its warmest, you can not only enjoy more of the beautiful state, but because it stays light so long you can do things you normally may not think of at night. Try one of the Midnight Hot Air Balloon tours, the sites are amazing and they are also something you’ll never get a chance to see from this perspective. Check out Alaska options here.

6. Mow your lawn just before dark or very early in the morning. Mow very early in the morning as long as you are not my neighbor . Otherwise, mow the grass as the temperature starts to cool down. Mowing late in the day also gives you the chance to cool down and relax for the evening with a nice cool shower.

7. Take A Wine Tour In Napa Valley. Limos are air conditioned. They are also the best way to tour Napa Valley’s wine country. An experienced driver will know, just from talking with you for a while, the wineries that will suit your personality best. Go ahead and grab a couple of friends and take a 3 day weekend to Napa Valley, you won’t regret it. Stay In Napa Valley

8. Don’t get all worked up. Getting upset really can feel like your blood is “boiling”. Try to keep your sanity in the summertime.

9. Help friends and family with travel plans and make money. Because children are out of school for summer break, summer is the time for travel. This is a great time for you to get involved in a travel business so you can help your friends and family save money this summer. Travel is a giant industry and can afford you things you never though possible. The greatest thing is, with travel… you don’t have to be a salesman! Just let your acquaintances know you can get them good deals on their travel plans and you’ve got a built in customer base. Nice. Check out your options here as a Travel Consultant.

10.Plan several mini trips for summertime. The last day of a trip or vacation is usually a bummer. Thinking about going back to work or just re acclimating to the daily grind is actually stressful. Don’t do that to yourself. Instead, plan several small 2-3 day mini vacations that you can look forward to throughout the summer. Cruises work especially well for this because you can go to fantastic places for so little money. If you’re a land lover at heart, consider using our Condo Card or Condo Q Cards This way you can not only get a $600 discount on condo stays but condos are much more accommodating. Especially for a family.
