It’s a fact, Americans love to take vacations. Further justifying this statement is in a national survey which was led by Virginia Tech and Clemson University. The study verified that almost half of Americans have no intentions on giving into the economy when it comes to this Summer’s vacation plans.
And there’s even more good news ahead. Fifteen percent (15%) of US Citizens plan to even travel more than they have in the past. This is because there are so many special offers being made on travel and vacation accommodations. In addition, the gas prices are lower than they were last summer. We can hardly forget last summer. As it finally became apparent to most of us that, yeah we’re in a big economic mess, gas prices hit us between the eyes at $4 or more per gallon. That’s when most Americans that normally took scheduled Summer Vacations put on the breaks or simply vacationed closer to their own homes.
In the national survey only 35% of those who answered the pole said there would be reconsidering plans for vacation this year.
Said Mr. Jeffrey Hallo or the Clemson University Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management Department, “People told us that they would sacrifice other luxuries rather than give up their travel plans.”
With unemployment at an all time high and baby boomers being the highest age group to start home businesses, the travel industry is ripe and ready. If you’re considering a home business, travel is one you can do without any sales experience or intimidation that you may not know much about the industry. I’ve helped many mothers (dads too!) who have left the work force, either by choice or by pink slip, get financial recovery in the travel industry. It’s fun and rewarding and as you read above, the industry is not seeing the downturns most other industries are.
