Want to get away for a couple days but don’t know where to go? Head to New York and take a break. Huh? That’s right. Parts of New York city have been redesigned for public spaces. Familiar to tourists and locals alike, Times Square has a new pedestrian mall between 42nd and 47th streets. No traffic here either. Instead enjoy great lawn chairs where you can soak up rays and spread out. Even Herald Square has been closed to traffic and is now a pedestrian zone. Nice!
Even on Manhattans west side you can enjoy the elevated steel railway, once carrying trains, now a park which offers views of the city 30 feet over the street.
